How do you make a root beer float?

I have never had a root beer float. What all goes in it? Can it be any kind of root beer?

1. put the rootbeer in the glass first...then scoop your ice cream in...very little foam that way.

9. You can actually use any kind of ice cream you want, though vanilla is traditional, and IBC is the best RB. If you are sensitive to caffeine, read the labels, as many brands of root beer are starting to add caffeine to their products. The same goes for phosphoric acid, which is very bad for your teeth.

15. Oh you poor thing. Bless your heart! Please put the root beer in a frosty glass first then put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in (or 2). If you put the ice cream in 1st, it will be way too foamy. You can also use regular Coca Cola too. That is yummy, too.

It will come in a big frosty mug with lots of ice cream. The rootbeer is ever flowing so if you get to the bottom of the mug and still have ice cream left don't worry, more rootbeer is on the way.
